Successful advocacy requires a sustained effort, not simply one letter, phone call, or meeting. Face-to-face meetings are the most effective means to convey your message and can be the beginning of a long-term relationship with your legislator and their staffs. Many programs also extend invitations to an in-school legislative breakfast, open house or graduation ceremony or the opportunity to guest teach a class. This gives elected officials an opportunity to better understand your program and its role in the community.
